What is NAV?
The Network for African Volcanologists (AfriVolcaNet or NAV) was established in 2020 to promote Volcanological education and research and its application for the benefit of humanity in Africa, specifically in areas with known active volcanic activity.
The NAV stands to be a platform for African volcanologists, including students, lecturers and researchers around the world.
Why the NAV?
Most volcanic regions in Africa are particularly vulnerable to volcanic hazards. The NAV is deeply concerned and interested in addressing these hazard related issues through improving our understanding of the genesis of hazards through scientific, social and technical approaches.
The intention behind the NAV is connecting, sharing experiences, and develop ideas to promote volcanological studies within universities across the continent. Provide relevant scientific information to the volcanological community and other stakeholders regarding the evolution of volcanological research in Africa. Contribute to volcanic hazards assessment with the end goal of achieving a better life for our people.
Our aims
Define and implement the promotion of volcanological education and research activities across the continent.
Regularly disseminate short factual statements about African volcanoes and eruptions through our social media accounts.
Proceed with the identification and invitation of our leaders and younger colleagues to join and contribute.
Reenforce the communication and collaboration with well-established Scientific organization.
Prepare conference/meeting for Africa volcanism.
Establish local pool and custodians for research resources including field equipment to ensure efficient mobilization with the region to facilitate efficiency in research logistics.
Champion the establishment of analytical facilities for high quality research
Champion a wider visibility of Africa researches through involvement in high impact research student supervisor, extermination within the continent and internationally.
Wider visibility in geothermal exploration, exploitation and utilization in an environmentally sustainable manner.
