Session 1: The state of Volcano Research and Monitoring, Volcano Hazards Assessment, and Volcano Risk Reduction in Africa.
In this session, our speakers will present the situation of volcanology in their country, particularly regarding (1) progress in volcano study-monitoring and hazards assessment and mitigation, (2) the number of scientists of the local volcano study-monitoring team, (3) the state of the study-monitoring networks (seismology, GNSS and other geodesic technics, geochemistry, hazards and risk assessment and crisis management for DDR), (4) training opportunities (e.g., degree, PhD opportunities).
Session 2: Problematics in developing education, research collaboration, data sharing, and visibility enhancement in volcanology in developing countries.
This session is dedicated to highlight how volcanological studies are organized in African countries, how the volcanology programs are prepared, what are the most important Universities where ones can study volcanology and associated disciplines (geophysics, seismology, geodesy, Geochemistry, volcanic hazards and risks), and the types of collaborations that exist in teaching and direction of thesis between the universities and the research centers. Ways for improvements.
In this session, our speakers will provide us with talks that show how volcanological research are designed in their countries. How the research projects are financed and the level of collaboration between local and international institutions. Research logistics and ways for improvements.
A panorama of the difficulties faced by our postgraduate students, early careers, and well established lecturers and researchers will also be presented.

Nyeri county economy is endowed with a rich natural resources base; forests, wildlife, minerals (stone, sand, kaolin, ballast mining), livestock, pasture, water, medicinal plants. The major tourism attractions are Mt. Kenya (a world heritage site), Mt. Kenya National Park and Aberdares National Park, all within one-hour bus ride.
Other sites identified and mapped are heritage sites (caves, shrines, historical buildings, dams, natural sites, and prehistoric sites), distributed within the eight sub-counties in Nyeri County, such as the Italian War Memorial Church, which houses the remains of more than 600 prisoners of war. The founder of the scout movement Lord Baden Powell lived and is buried in Nyeri.
It is also planned that a geothermal site in the Kenyan part of the East African Rift system could be visited by the NAV workshop participants one afternoon. Visit the department of Trade, Tourism, Culture And Cooperative Development – County Government of Nyeri for more details on touristic sites.
